Other E-Commerce systems can be downloaded and installed on a self-hosted basis. You would still need to pay someone to design a website theme and setup the website for you but this is often cheaper in the long run.

You would still have to pay monthly for website hosting but there would be no limitation on how many pages or products you can have. This means there is a fixed price no matter how big or small your store happens to be.

    I’ve been looking for a comparison between E-Commerce systems for a while and this was very useful. The part about who owns the website is especially important and I didn’t realise the company offering the E-Commerce service would ‘own’ your website. All interesting points to consider!
